WAPDA vs DISCO Pakistan — Who Handles Your Electricity Bill & Where Are the Offices

Most Pakistanis call it a "WAPDA bill" but your billing, meter reading, and customer service are handled by your regional DISCO — not WAPDA directly. This guide clarifies who does what and where to go for every type of electricity office in Pakistan.

WAPDA vs DISCO

WAPDA and Your DISCO Are Different Organisations — Here Is What Each Does

WAPDA Handles

  • Major hydroelectric power generation (Tarbela, Mangla, Neelum-Jhelum)
  • National transmission grid (via NTDC subsidiary)
  • Large dam construction and water management
  • WAPDA House, Lahore (head office for these functions)
  • Public-sector generation policy statements

Your DISCO Handles

  • Monthly electricity billing and meter reading
  • New connection applications and load extensions
  • Meter faults, replacement, and sealing complaints
  • Billing disputes and refund processing
  • Subdivision (SDO) office walk-in services
  • Load-shedding schedules for your feeder
💡The practical rule: If it involves your electricity bill, meter, or connection — contact your DISCO. Use the DISCO directory below to find yours. For official WAPDA information about hydropower and water projects, see wapda.gov.pk.

Finding Your Subdivision

How to Find Your SDO / Subdivision Office for Walk-In Services

01

Check Your Bill Footer

Every DISCO bill prints the subdivision name, SDO helpline, and sometimes the sub-division address at the bottom. This is the most reliable way to find your local office.

02

Use the DISCO Helpline

Call your DISCO's central helpline with your reference number. Ask which subdivision handles your area and for the SDO office address. This works even if you do not have a recent bill.

03

Visit the Regional Office

For head office or circle-level visits (load extension requests over a certain threshold, commercial account issues), use the addresses in our DISCO Office Directory. Bring your CNIC, reference number, and a recent bill print.

FAQ

WAPDA & DISCO Offices — Common Questions

Is WAPDA and my electricity company the same?

No. WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority) manages major hydroelectric projects and the national transmission grid. Your billing, meter reading, and customer service are handled by your regional DISCO — MEPCO in south Punjab, LESCO in Lahore, FESCO in Faisalabad, and so on. The term 'WAPDA bill' is a common informal name for a DISCO electricity bill.

How do I find my DISCO's subdivision (SDO) office?

Your physical electricity bill prints the subdivision name and SDO helpline for your connection area at the bottom. Alternatively, call your DISCO's main helpline with your reference number and they will tell you which subdivision handles your connection.

Where is the WAPDA head office?

WAPDA's head office is at WAPDA House, Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam (The Mall), Lahore. For electricity billing and consumer services, contact your regional DISCO directly — WAPDA's head office does not handle individual consumer bills for DISCO-served areas.

How do I check which DISCO serves my area?

Your electricity bill clearly shows the DISCO name at the top. If you do not have a bill, check by city: Lahore → LESCO, Faisalabad → FESCO, Multan / south Punjab → MEPCO, Islamabad / Rawalpindi → IESCO, Gujranwala → GEPCO, Peshawar / KPK → PESCO, Hyderabad → HESCO, Sukkur → SEPCO, Quetta / Balochistan → QESCO, FATA → TESCO, Hazara → HAZECO.
